Last Friday Robel had a doctors appointment for his first check up and to start his immunizations. I also remembered before eating that my Dr had requested my annual fasting blood work and so decided I would go ahead and have my blood drawn prior to his appointment.
Deonna asked if she could come along and hold Robel's hand. Since that was super sweet, why not?! All was going well with my blood draw and then suddenly I was hearing everything in slow motion and blackness impaired my vision. Yes, I was passing out. In fact, I did pass out...cold you might say. The "nurse" was very attentive to me and after finishing the draw I found myself in a recliner on wheels. My kids were somewhat entertained and wondered why I was relaxing in the office.
No worries, mom recovered quickly after a few cold rags. We were soon off to Robel's doctors appointment. He weighs 47 lbs and is 47.5 inches tall. He is in the 5th percentile for his age. I've always had big babies so this is kindof fun. Next, for the start of his immunizations...SIX SHOTS! Yikes. He had aligator tears and cried out "oye" a few times. I think he might have also sworn in Amharic...just kidding. To say the least he wasn't impressed with my holding him down in a bear hug while the nurse attacked him.
Next to the Lab for blood work...I was a bit embarrassed upon entering this time. Robel wanted to watch the needle enter his arm even though I could not. He took it like a man and only cried silent aligator tears prior to the poke. He is a trooper. 3 days later he isn't even limping anymore.
As I reviewed that experience I thought it would be fun to read someday and so here I have finally recorded it.
Yes, I know...I am a wimp!

Too funny! So did we decide how old Robel is?
ReplyDeleteIt is a good thing you didn't choose medicine as a profession. : )
