Things I've learned this week

This week was parent teacher conference week.  So, my kids had half days Wednesday, Thursday and today.  It has been fun having extra time with them.  Yesterday it was blustery cold so hot cocoa stood ready for them after school.  Mmmm.  After going to 3 parent teacher conferences & a field trip with Angelia's Kindergarten class to the Pumpkin Patch and volunteering in Robel's class this is what I've learned.

  1. All 5 year olds are the same.  Pat, pat, pat...."teacha, teacha, teacha" on any adult...repeated a bazillion times.
  2. Kindergarten teachers are Saints!
  3. Mud, rain & Kindergartners don't mix well.
  4. The back of school buses are FREEZING COLD!!!
  5. My 10 year old son is not the only one in his class who cannot focus for more than 2 minutes.
  6. Teachers must be a bit mental to do what they do.  I do question their ability to make good decisions based on the fact that they chose to go into this profession.
  7. I am grateful there are crazy people willing to to into teaching.
  8. My son moves around like a Parkinson's patient while being quizzed on math flash cards.  Who knew.
  9. 2 + 6 = 10 &  4 + 2 = 10 & 2 +9 = 10 (according to one 3rd grader)
  10. Oh, and some food items have TWO box tops on their packaging (good eye, Robel)
I hope I am not sounding negative...I am saying all of this with a smile!  I realize that I could never do what my kids' teachers do!  I know my limits.  I also know that I love volunteering in their classes and getting to know what they do all day long while they are out of my care.  I love meeting their friends and finding out how others see and view my kids.  I love seeing how genuine and good the teachers are with so many active kids to care for.

I have to say we are VERY blessed.  We live in great school boundaries with great teachers and great friends and neighbors.  Life is good!
