We kept things pretty low-key today. We wanted a day without much activity to help keep some consistency for Robel while we are at the guest house waiting to be able to go home. We've done all sorts of things with Robel, including soccer, baseball, legos, cards, a movie, math, reading, snuggling, etc. It's been pretty good, and for the most part Robel has had fun and has been happy.
I think that he is a little frustrated at the language barrier, but we have good basic communication. In short time we'll get through all of the language troubles, so we just hope and pray that he'll be as comfortable as possible with us until then and know that we love him. We express and show our love for him often, and he is usually very responsive. He has been calling us mom and dad, which is really endearing and a good sign. We'll be glad to be home soon and starting the process of adapting to life back home.
This is the beginning of the winter & rainy season for Ethiopia and we have witnessed it every day since we've been in Addis Ababa. We usually see two or three rain storms run through each day. This evening while we were eating dinner at the local hotel's restaurant, a big storm came through that lasted for a couple of hours. Lightening and thunder were frequent and close. The main street in front of the restaurant looked like a raging river all of the way across. It was quite a sight. Robel was very entertained by it all and laughed after the thunder startled him a few times.
