So, when we bought our white van...our dealership made us a "customer for life"...meaning, if we do all of our services with them then they will cover roadside services & tires for life as well as for every ten dollar spend on our "customers for life" card we will get a $1 credit towards any one of our future services.
That sounded reasonable...not that we chose the dealership out of much searching but rather, convenience.
Now to vent:
About 2 years into saving credits we lost our customer for life card...mind you they only give you ONE. Well apparently if you lose your card you lose your credits...because and I quote "oh, the card doesn't follow the customer, so if you lose it, you lose those credits and I don't know if you can even get another card". Sounds like a customer service friendly program, right. Daniel said "are you telling me that we are the first customers to EVER lose their card?" After really getting ticked...we did receive a new card with a $0 credit balance a few weeks later.
So, at least we had a new card and a new way to gain credits and tires for life.
Last Thursday Daniel came home & found that my front passenger tire was FLAT as a pancake. So he called customer for life...they let him know that *IF* they could fix it there would be no charge otherwise we would need to buy a new tire for $93. Turns out they could not fix it BUT...our other three tires qualified for new tires because of tread wear. However, because the front tire had gone flat it was not covered under the same customer for life benefits. Huh? If I have lost you...it is because this story does not make sense at all to us either.
Within a few hours we received a call letting us know that all the work was done, HOWEVER, when they were changing our rear tires 3 lug studs had snapped and we would need to pay an additional $249, is that ok? WHAT?!?! So, they break our lug studs but we pay for the damages? Peeved...Daniel asked them to NOT fix our lug studs but instead get our van ready for pick up. In the meantime, Daniel looked up the cost of lug studs. Any guesses????????????

this is where I wish I had a service station......................

$1.72 each...coming to under $6 for 3. Where on earth did they think they could charge us $249.00???
Since Daniel was DONE...I decided I would pick up the car and pay for the services rendered. Our very untrustworthy "clerk"...showed me the bill and advised I owed $511. Now, I didn't know that Daniel was quoted less than half of that. He assured me the three tires had not been charged for. Yay...what a deal. With my $40ish credit I paid my $470 bill and drove away never looking back! With a resolve to not return...EVER!!!
When I got home and told Daniel I had paid the bill and how much...he nearly came unglued...he called "Jamie" and demanded he make it right...Jamie said "oh, it looks like I accidently used the wrong code and it did charge you for those additional tires". ERRRRR...
The good news...they did make it right! Shew. Now my van is at our neighbors home so he can change out the lug studs...and on Saturday Nate will do my rear brakes (they quoted that too, yeah no). Nate & Wayne are our heroes!
Man, can you even believe that? Had to vent it...sorry for the crazy, boring read.

Truely amazing, I'd call the better business bureau.
ReplyDelete"Customer for life" is an insurance product. You paid for it when you closed your loan on the van. I am sure if you read the fine print, this would all make sense..... Well, maybe not, but, like insurance, the company can "decline" services.... Doesn't make it any better, but as one of those who sells vehicle insurance and products, "Customer for Life" is not a product I offer as my dealership's Business Manager. I don't see the value of it. Also, you may want to pull out your records... Find out how much you paid. You may be able to cancel and get a prorated refund. If the cost wasn't disclosed and you were "slammed" (forced to buy a product without disclosure) the dealership broke the law and you have other options there..... Hope this helps.
